Default 2001 1.8T powerband

Hi all, just wondering about my powerband, wondering if there's something wrong. I've driven several 00+ jetta 1.8t's and 97-99 A4 1.8t's. The jetta's powerband was quite alive real low in the rpm range, I didn't really feel any lag at all city driving. The 97-99's felt dead slow all the time!

I've always thought my 2001 was normal until I started mentally comparing it to my experiences with the jetta. My powerband seems to get a rush of power between 2000-2500rpm and fairly linear to redline. Anywhere below 2000rpm I am completely gutless and the power will only start coming on slowly just over 2000rpm.

Is this the characteristic of the k03 vs k03s, or is there perhaps something fishy about my car? I've got no codes whatsoever and everything is completely stock.

So in your opinion, its normal that a fwd 1.8t counterpart feels like its got more low end grunt then the a4?

Could also be the fact that under 2k you are basicly boggin the car down...

Jetta is WAY lighter than an A4 too... Plus less drivetrain loss due to A4 being AWD...

Default yes. agreed with Neo1130...lighter and less drivetrain loss. long engine is also -10hp.

turbo doesn't kick until 1950 RPMs anyway.

As others have, said "they're all like that". Even chipped, power doesn't come on hard till 2500
