Default 2002 A4

For those of you (and I don't blame you) that aren't looking at my thread entilted "max se is dead", the purpose of it was to gather info on the 2002 A4. I understand why you wouldn't want to waste your time talking about the Max anymore, but I am off of that now. I'd like to know as much about the new A4 as I can because if I'm gonna invest almost 30K into a new ride, I want to see if it's going to be worth it to maybe wait a year to get the new one. Any comments appreciated!!

Default Live for the day...

This all depends upon your desires. What is your tolerance for waiting? Of course, the longer you wait, the better technology will get, the more features / competitiors / etc...it goes on and on. Maybe if you wait, you can afford a $35k car - now its a new ballgame...see my point?
If you really really want an Audi coupe or convertible that may be out in 2002 / 2003 and have to wait that long to save $$, then it would be worth it.
But I disagree with the thinking that you want a vehicle that is currently unannounced. There is no good data to support style, features, pricing, etc. Also, do you really want to own a vehicle during its first year of production (bugs).
I would suggest setting loose timeframes based on your financial goals - then see what happens. Maybe you will get a good price on a 2001 at the beginning of next year, maybe you will be the first with a 2002. But don't wait so long that you miss out on the fun.
I think you are on the right track with narrowing down the manufacturers that you like and deciding German vs. Japanese vehicles.
Good Luck and enjoy the waiting (like I am - I am being sarcastic) :-)<p><a href="http://www.mindspring.com/~thomapa1">

Ok I totally understand and I do agree. Actually buying one in the near future is based around my (and my wife-to-be) financial goals. Now is actually the best time for me to do this. Anyway, so assuming that a 2001 is the way to go in the buying process, what will be the best time next year to get one. I figure that this year will be bad since the demand will be up and therefore price will be stiffer. And, since the dealers will probably want to push the 2002's and make sure they liquidate their 2001 stock, are we talking late winter early spring for getting the 2001??

Default got the same $$ over invoive for '01 as '00

I had come to an agreed price on a MY00, but then decided I wanted the sport package and the sport seats, too, so I had to order one, and they gave me the same 1200 over invoice...IMHO, it's not worth waiting to save 200 clams, because I don't recall anyone getting better than 1K over invoice<p>'01 1.8T Avant - India Red

Default Audi not like US car mfgs...

Typically, you see US cars on sale Sept-Jan as they try to unload their inventory of last years models. Audi is different in that the 2001s are now available in June(ish). So the sale on MY 2000s would have been March-now. When will the MY 2002 Audis be available? Your guess is as good as mine. It has been stated that the new body style will roll out in Europe before coming to the US - so that is good in that it will have some 'burn in' time. Typically the Audis sell at a premium all of the time. Couple that with rising demand (and it is rising) and you should see that there will probably not be any time that you will get a deep discount unless you happen upon something unique.
So with that said, go when you are financially ready and are comfortable with what is most important to you in a vehicle.<p><a href="http://www.mindspring.com/~thomapa1">

So is that the price range is should try and play in??....1000-1500 or so above invoice?? I realize the demand is up so therefore pricing will stay up, but is it reasonable to hope or expect to get one of these for about 1500 or so above invoice?? I can live with that if it is the case..

Default $1500 over invoice is pretty typical

Check out the archives, most folks pay 3-5% over invoice (including myself). Some have done better, and some have paid more. The biggest factor will be demand in YOUR area. If you live in an area with 1 Audi dealer you may have a tougher time negotiating a good deal than if there are a bunch (and they know you can go down the street and get the same car). As far as the 2002 models, there's way too little information available right now. If you're ready to buy (or will be in the next few months) do so, then if you really like the new A4's, you can trade in for one down the road.<p>Regards,
Rodney
