2002 A4 Multitronic
Read an interesting blurb in the current issue of Motor Trend about the Multitronic. Says that a CVT has never been employed in a car this powerful, and it conveys a sensation of clutch slip as it accelerates without changing gears.
Can't wait to test drive it...

At last a gearbox that offers the ease of an automatic without a performance and fuel consumption penalty.
multitronic is the world's first high performance continuously variable transmission. It overates more smoothly than the best conventional automatic yet can accelerate as fast and is vertually as economical as a manual.
Engineers have long known that more gears mean more efficient performance, but practiticality limits even manual sports gearboxes to just five or six gears.
The secret of the high-tech multitronic is a theoretically infinite number of gear ratios. In practice it allows seamless jolt-free accleratin right up to the maximum speed with no effort and no time lost in changing gears.
Multitronic also has a manual mode for fingertip selection of a six speed 'virtual' gearbox.
So.... sounds like a very nice design. Can't wait to test drive this and see what it feels like.
I hope to get my scanner in and post all this pictures. These brochures are full of nice pictures, it'd be nice to share these with you guys - since it sounds like they are not sending these brochures out to everyone who request them.
