290 Miles for full tank of gas? 96 A4?
i have a manual 96 2.8L A4 quattro...i was under the impression that i should be getting around 400 miles per tank if not more?
i have a error code that says i have a faulty engine temp coolant sensor, but i doubt that would cause me to lose over 100 miles per tank?

400 miles per tank would come out to...
almost 26 miles per gallon, if you ran it DRY (15.6 gallons) if u mean till the gas light comes on (13.2 gallons, in my car anyway) that would be a lil over 30 mpg. assuming you got 290 miles when ur gas light came on, thats about 22 mpg, and remember these are all averages. 22 mpg isnt bad for a 2.8 V6, unless you live next to an on/off ramp and only drive on the highway. I dont drive on the highway much at all, except on weekends, and i also have a heavy foot, and i average 19-22 mpg (about 80% "around town" driving) with my 1.8T (mods in signature)

i'll be replacing this weekend....
along with a minor tuneup...
i may have gotten a faulty spec outlook when i researched my car...what i got was that it should get 26 mpg...with a 16.8 gallon tank..now i expec the MPG to drop slightly over time..2 or 3 mpg? but even 23mpg would be 386 miles per tank of gas...

looked up the historical here on this site...
16.4 gallon tank...290 isnt too bad with the mix of city and highway mpg....
310-330 would be what i should shoot for...will see what the tuneup and sensor replacement does!
