Doesn't blow any air, or doesn't blow hot air? All the time? When?

He will answer when the ambient temperature gets lower. Also had an 81 Scirocco S. Loved it.

Sorry..Im hijacking into this thread as I have the same issue. in my case Im getting air blowing no problem. and its warm air..but not HOT...even when I have CC turned up to 83 degrees and its 40 outside. I flushed the core as many suggested with no improved results. Im thinking that the Heat core is not Burbed of air 100 so I keep making sure that is good but there not air and its curculating ok. What next??????? Its almost like the temp sensor is "OFF" as I get cool air at 70 and it does get warmer as I call for warmer air but...I would think I should bet HOT air when Im asking for 83 degrees. Does outside temp really matter that much? it was in the 40's during all of this teesting>?

I had that issue on a 95 Audi 90 - it was caused by a broken thermostat

I would place a large bet on the notion that you need a new thermostat. How long does it take the car to get to temp?

Agreed, thermostat and heater core flush. My '96 needed both, now all the hot air I can stand. By the way, I changed my thermostat without moving the front end to service position, and it wasn't that bad. I did have to loosen the tensioner roller to slide the timing belt off, to get the T-stat housing out. I have read that the belt can be twisted enough to ease the housing out, I didn't try that. When the belt came off, one sprocket moved, but matching up the numerous paint marks I made kept me out of trouble. The thermostat was open about 1/8" at room temperature.

THe car gets up to temp with about 15 minutes or so...I did the core flush but got nothing. Ive heard of people having to CLR the core to get decent results. Man...I didnt want to have to go for the Thermo but I may if an additional core flush does not work.

My water was clean as a whistle. Hmmmm ok guys... Thanks!!

Taking 15 minutes to get up to temp seems too long, but if it does eventually get to normal operating temp, and there is still no warm/hot air from your heater, changing the thermostat won't cure that. When the car is at normal temperature, are both heater hoses (supply and return) at the center of the firewall hot? If the right-side one is hot, and the other isn't, then the core is blocked and needs to be flushed out. I used Prestone cooling system cleaner. When flushing, you will want to put the cleaner into the left pipe (heater return) to back-flush blockages back up supply pipe. Both hoses should be disconnected when you do this.

After you get your heat back, now you can tackle the thermostat, so doesn't take so long to warm up.
