Default I run 38psi on my 18s.

It would be safer to say less psi = bent wheels.

I run 38 psi on 16" tires, it's fine. Max. inflated pressure is 45 typically.

Default lower means feel the bumps less, higher protects the rims more

I ran 32-33 cold on my 18" RE's and moved up to 37-38 cold and you can really feel the difference once the tires are warmed up.

Default Low pressure

Tires "pull" the car up, they don't lift it. The car hangs from the top section of the sidewall, it doesn't rest on the bottom. Low tire pressure allows the object to compress the sidewall and hit the wheel. High tire pressure would cause more of a tendency to pull the wheel out of shape. I don't know about you, but all of the bends that I have seen have the wheel pushed in, not pulled out.

You can also think about it this way: when you inflate the tires to really high pressure, you can feel every bump, right? That means those forces aren't going into the wheel/tire, they are going to the suspension/rest of the car. When you run low pressures, you can't feel a thing. That means that all of those forces are being absorbed by the wheel & tire.

Make sense kinda?
