Sure

If you rotate the inner pad to the outside and vice versa, the brake will not work evenly. Pads must be replaced in pairs and on both sides.

Re: stupid stupid question.

run your fingers along the rotor to feel the subtle groves. the chance that the other pad's groves are the same is beyond remote. even if you cut the rotors, you're still using a groved(used) pad on a flat rotor surface. cough up the hunge for new pads
