Default i'm guessing it's the wastegate... i get a click between some hard upshifts as well
It doesn't sound like the pinging i've heard in a local stg 3 equipped 2000 quattro, it's not nearly as loud. It's just a subtle click.

iirc, it happens under acceleration or lugging your engine.

Default Does that click get louder when you have the AC on? How
about when you let off the gas after a hard acceleration? Does it sound like someone is knocking on the side of your car once somewhere near the BPV?

I've just described the sound I've heard for a few years now, chipped and unchipped, and it's been just short of driving me nuts.

make sure you have RPM on there so you know when you shift.
