Default I've never heard of using teflon on hydraulic fittings...
I think that if your flare fittings need a thread seal, then teflon won't help you. Consider the amount of pressure in those lines.

I'm not sure, but hydraulic fluid may even dissolve teflon

Default Teflon tape works great, just be careful how much you use
all I do for a living is build/test/make hydraulic componets for helicopters. Teflon tape has no problem helping to seal stuff up to 6,000 PSI... trust me I know, after 6k well you are on your own.

Default depends on the type of hydraulic fluid.
Most of the flex hose asemblies in aircraft are teflon with double steel braids.
