the gauge or meter?

I think you are better off with a gauge and maybe a pyrometer to measure EGTs.

bling. Actually I think they are quite annoying.

all they do is bounce back and forth.

A wideband is wayyyy more useful than EGT when home tuning an engine...

which if you are buying a kit...an A/f, wideband, or EGT are completely useless.

Yes, and no....

If all or even most the lights go off, you are lean, no question about it. But when you are under boost, you should be at around 12:1. A narrow-band sensor will look exactly the same at 14:1 as it does at 12:1. If you're at 14:1 under boost, especially if you're running more than stock boost levels, you are running into dangerous territory. Sure the KS *should* save your engine, but it's only a reactive device, reacting AFTER the onset of detonation.
