A4 Central Locking Problem
I am in the UK and have a 95 or maybe 96 A4 1.9 TDI. I have a central locking problem and would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions.
Problem:
-When locked the car runs the central locking vacuum pump intermittantly. When the problem happens you tend to get a few of them but the car can go days without the problem. Basically, you will walk by the car and hear the pump hamming away by itself.
-FYI, the car has a small trunk locking problem. The trunk locks fine with the central locking but will not lock with the key. I don't know if this is relevant.
Work So Far:
-The central locking pump failed (probably because of the problem) and has been replaced. The car still has the problem.
-The car has been to an Audi specialist who says that the vacuum tests fine and who then returned the car unfixed because the problem didn't happen when he had it.
Any ideas on how I can fix this or, at least, learn more about it?
THANKS in advance for any help you can offer.
Cheers,

If you can hear the new pump still running now then it most likely is a vacuum leak somewhere. I remember being told that there is a 'T' piece under the back seat which is prone to cracking.
Do a search on this site and you will find lots of useful posts no doubt.
