Default A4 Problems

Hi. I heard from a friend that the Audi A4
has quite a lot of problems, engine wise
and isn't that reliable. Is this true?
I am planning on buying a new Audi soon.
Thanks for your help.

I've got a 98 A4T-Quattro and haven't had a single problem. In general, I love the car and highly recommend it.

Default 1998 accord vs 199 9.5 A4

my long since ditched 1998 accord @ 5000 miles: clutch slave cylinder, fuel system problem that caused the car to idle like a paint mixer, replaced the drier side seat tracks because seat would tilt when going around corners. (that was just the start, many more problems by the time the A4 came along)

my 1999.5 A4 5000 miles: nada. my biggest concern was all the talk i've heard about german cars eating oil like crazy. haven't even burned one drop of oil.

goes to show you a car by any name could be the lemon no one wants.

I have a 2000 2.8 quattro with 1700 miles. I runs just fine with one minor concern, the acceleration seems a little flat when first shifting into 2nd gear. I've heard that using an after market air filter like the K&N helps.

Default Well, okay a couple problems - but minor

I have a 1997 A4 1.8TQA with 47500 miles -- it will soon be out of warranty I had a couple problems that were covered under warranty: ABS sensor was sensitive to cold, original heaters for mirrors burned out (not a problem on newer cars I hear), then there was the whole "check engine light" thing (see archives) where one of my engine coils was sensitive to cold (<30F). But all-in-all I consider these problems to be minor - new car bugs that warranty is supposed to catch. Given the choice to buy it again - you bet! I love this car - although I'm a teensy bit envious of new A4 owners cause they have more perks. But I'm sooooo glad I bought it!!
