Default AC Question
My B5 A4 has the auto climate control. When the car sits still, the air coming from the vents isn't conditioned (it's outside vent air). Does it need to be recharged, or is there some relay going bad... or any thing else that might be at work? Thanks!

Default if the econ light is on, it wont be conditioned air.
if the econ light is off, the compressor will come on provided its over 42 degrees F outside.

It's not in ECON mode- air's conditioned when car's moving.

Is your electric (A/C, on the passenger side) fan on when car is stationary?

Default is it overheating? because what you're saying makes NO sense.
the air-conditioning is not speed dependant. is the electric engine fan running when the A/C is on?

Default Check the temp display on the dash...
Mine's been giving me trouble, and when it sometimes drops to -50 degs F, it shuts off the compressor.

When I get moving again, the flow of air seems to kick the sensor back in line. Next time I bring in the car I'm going to have them fix it.

I've had this with other cars and not bothered to diagnose/fix it, but this car's really worth it. The AC's only cold when the car's moving.

Default then its either a crappy tensioner (belt slipping), needs more charge...
or bad compressor.

do you hear a squealing from a start? that would be the belt then.

Default What year (hint: place car info in your sig, like I did so that people don't ask for it)?
If your car is newer and has a low port - yes, you can DIY. Benefits of either/or:

DIY:
- cheap

Shop:
- can add dye to test for leaks
- can help diagnose and find that parts need to be replaced (dryer, etc)
- migt be worth extra $$ if you plan to keep the car
