Acceleration Problems

I have a 97 1.8T automatic that's sputtering and hoping everytime i accelerate in the low rpm ranges, it's fine in the high rpm ranges. Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Plugs, plugs & wires, fuel filter, could be lots of things. VAG it and STFA.

Well the check engine light comes on for a couple of days and then goes off...

plus i took it to my mechanic and he told me i had to replace the turbo, which i think is bull****. I had new iridum spark plugs put in about 6 months ago too.???

check the plug gap, also check for vacum leak and like audiski said VAG it.
