added a remote... (with RANGE!)
my 1996 did not come with the factory remote. <br>So i added one last nite.<p>fairly straight forward.<br>Both front door locks are also single pole dual throw (SPDT) switches that when actuated, cause a short to gnd. The switch is activated by either turning the key to the lock or unlock position.<p>So i wired my alarm to the driver's side. Negative pulse from alarm (short to gnd) locks, and another negative pulse from alarm unlocks. So far so good.<p>But i also wanted to roll the windows up remotely. So i wired the second channel of the alarm basically in parallel to the door unlock control. (i had to internally modify the alarm--it was a cheapy, using basically a microchip with darlington drivers for the outputs).<p>Now the second channel, which actuates as long as i hold the second button will close the windows and sun roof, when the alarm is armed. When the alarm is disarmed, it will unlock all the doors.<p>I actually had to shorten the range on this thing. I don't like to be able to actuate my alarm from more than 20FT away. I guess i am afraid of criminals using code grabbing technology. Especially after my last car was broken into and the alarm was not even triggered!<p><br>1996 a4 2.8 qm (with concert and REMOTE!!)
