Another broken coil spring.. Right front this time..
Wife came home the other day, and proclaimed that she thought her car ('98 A4 2.8 tip avant quattro) had another broken spring, and that it was the right front.
I pushed down on the fender to make the sound for her, and she said, yeah, that's it.
Pulled the car in, lifted it up, pulled the wheel, and sure enough, almost 1 complete coil broke clean off of the spring. I'm not at all surprised, since I've replaced many A4 rear springs, A6 rear springs, one A6 front left, and now the A4 front right.
The problem is rust of course, nothing else. I'm not sure there's any way to prevent it short of painting the things constantly, and even then, not sure it would help.
Luckily I found a pair for less than the full retail of 1 from the dealer at my local FLAPS.

That's kind of a weird break. I've gone through a few of them and it's always been the last inch or so that breaks. Never had an entire coil snap off.
Any way you look at it, they sound like hell when they rub on the strut.
