Default Another A/C Issue...Thoughts?

Alright, my engine light is on and it appears to be a problem with the coolant temperature sensor (I have a new one on order). Would this cause the A/C to kick-off?

My A/C has JUST been charged and will kick-on immediatly for about 3 mins and get very cold. Then it shuts itself off and the little snow flake light on the readout goes out and will not come back on when you press the button.

Are these two issues connected? If not, what would else would cause the A/C to kickoff and not want to turn back on?

Thanks!

Phil

Default A flake on the display? Perhaps your outside air temp sensor is bad/disconnected? The sensor is

under/behind the front bumper, IIRC

Default yes, this will cause the AC to cutout!

also a defective outside temp sensor will do this.. one of mine failed and i watched the outside temp go from 85 to -35 needless to say below 40 degrees to ac had cut out... it's frustrating when you know it's not -35 but your car thinks it is and you spent all weekend taking the dash out to replace the evaporator. I was thinking, ah success. Then it cuts out.

Bottom line, a defective engine temp sensor can cut out the A/C.

There are 2 temp sensors, one is in the fresh air intake duct, and the other is in the bumper

Default Is my problem similar?

My A/C hasn't worked since I bought it in April. Last week my engine coolant temperature sensor started dying and the gauge will go to center and then drop to cold.

Could these two problems be linked?

Default Re: yes, this will cause the AC to cutout!

Check this out, temp dropped at -38 in the middle of a car wash. Next thing, the compressor switched off and AC went into heating. Ridiculous in Austin in the middle of June!!! I checked the famous air temp sensor behind the lower front grille. It wasn't there... just the cables. They had been stripped and there was nothing to plug to in sight.
My solution: Unplug your battery, it will reset the thermometer (to 99 in my case, much closer to real air temp) The compressor kicked in immediately and brought the temperature to 90 within 3 minutes.
BTW: I still do not know what the sensor looks like, where it goes or what is supposed to do.
