Armrest Squeek!! HELP

Just a quick question for some of the veterans here. I got my 99 A4 1.8 TQM in late December. So far I love the car but there is one small thing that is really getting annoying. The middle console (armrest) squeeks like there is a mouse in it or something. Obviously while I'm driving I'm resting my right arm on it and everytime you move, it squeeks. I'm about ready to rip the thing out of the car completely. Anyone run into this problem or have any possible solutions. Other than that the car is just incredible to drive, I love having it and look forward to getting an A6 when this lease is up :-).JMS

I had the dealer fix mine, they used some silicone, doesn;t squeek anymore!

I had that problem. Did nothing. It went away.

Vaseline! On the hinge area generously. Stopped mine completely. BDW '99 1.8Tqms

If you have leather, make sure the passenger seatbelt is not rubbing against the seat as well.

This is very common...

I complained to the dealer, and he said his car does it too.....check the archives, people have used vaseline, installed pads, etc...Neal 98.5 2.8qm(all but sport)

I had the same problem. It was the passenger side seatbelt rubbing on the leather.

I have yet to fix the problem for good.96 2.6Q

Kind of a goofy solution, but it worked for me on the exact same problem: Tear a business card in half, wrap it over the inside of the little plastic latch inside the armrest cover, and close it, wedging the paper between the latch and the receptacle. The card will insulate the squeak.
