Default Audi a4 b5 1998 won't start

my audi was parked for a year. When i put the battery and tried, it wouldn't start. The key warning light is on and the key fob does not open the central locking. I changed the batterries on the fob but still not working. Any suggestions?

First, forget the key fob. You can start a car without the remote entry working.

Second, you don't say what happens when you try to start it. Does it turn over? Does it fire at all? Have you done anything about the year old gas that has been sitting in the car or are you trying to start it on that?

the car starts then cuts out almost immediate. The fuel is topped with a fresh gallon. the key warning light on the dash stays on. The key does not seem to be diactivating the immobilizer.

Standard problem on audi is that when the power is completely lost including inside the cluster, the key information is deleted. Gotta get it reprogrammed. You can do that by either going to dealer, or getting "vag-tacho".

I had the same problem and looks that with the new gas alcohol mixture had broke the pump just replaced and the car starts again. Check for the relay, and the pump.

Have you scanned the car with VAG-COM? You may also have a problem with the throttle body adaptation. I have seen out of service Audi A4 and A6 cars loose their throttle body settings if the battery has been discharged for a long period of time.

Is this a US car?

MY 1998 US cars do not have an immobilizer but if this is not a US car it could.

Fuel mixture wouldn't force the immobilizer light to flash.
