Hello Audi Forum,

I am writing about my 2000 A4 Audi Quatro. On December 19, 2007, as I was driving my Audi on the freeway, I noticed that the car stopped accelerating. At that point I started pulling over to the side.

Before the car stopped accelerating, the engine light went on. I proceeded to drive for another minute before it stop accelerating.

I ended up having my Audi towed to the dealer's service department. While in service, the service technician informed me that the timing belt broke. Furthermore, due to the timing belt problem, the valve, and cylinder were either bent or broken as well. I was told the estimated repair cost would run up in excess of $10,000+.

Now, I think that is absurd. First of all, I bring my car in to service routinely, and have never missed a routine service. Furthermore, I only have 47,000 miles on my car. During my last service back in April 2007, the service technician and the report did not mention any problem with the timing belt. They did inform me of the serpentine belt problem, which I replaced.

What I find odd is that how can an Audi dealer service department not recognize that the car had timing belt problem. In addition, my car also ran out of oil. In my 20+ years of driving, I've never ran out of oil since I bring my car in for service routinely, and have never missed.

Has anyone experience this problem, and does anyone have any recommendation? I haven't gave Audi Service Dept, the go ahead to repair my car yet, since I'm contemplating.

Any info would be great.

the belt went with 21K after 5 years?

 

The 16 valve head was only $2k installed. She loved that repair.

This has nothing to do with neglect. This is an extremely early failure.
