Audi now recalling A4's and replacing control arms free of charge? (AZAudi.org posting)
Anyone who knows or hears otherwise, let me know.
Having owned my A4 since new in June of '98, I know that CAs are a problem. I've read countless posts on AW about people replacing them, found replacement parts on Shokan, have had "clunking" CAs for almost 2 years. Maybe I might get mine taken care of free-of-charge? Something smells fishy about this, but one can wish, right?
I guess the second call after to Scottsdale Audi will be to Audi of America to find out if a North American recall will happen.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated, as always.<ul><li><a href="http://www.azaudi.org/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=3 416">Audis being recalled because of control arm issue?</a></li></ul>
They allude to the fact that the "bearing arms connecting the suspension to the wheels" could fail, but only due to these "rubber boots" failing on the "axle."
I dunno. I'm not getting my hopes up for a round of new control arms.....

Every replacement that I've seen is a new aluminum CA and bushings on both ends - whole thing replaced - not just pop-out-a-bushing/put-new-one-into-old-CA/reinstall-onto-Audi.
If you have a different opinion, please post it. However, the article mentions SUSPENSION FAILURE, not CV boot tearing (which is common and does NOT immediately threaten the control or drivability of the vehicle.

Again, I know this is limited information, but I want to find out exactly what is at issue here regarding this supposed "recall".
I'm hoping this doesn't turn out to be another internet "hoax" to get our hopes up over CA recall.

Since when is the half shaft (aka "axle") and constant velocity joints part of the SUSPENSION? Those are drivetrain components!
Unless we are mis-interpreting the Kraut-to-English translation of what a "suspension" is, is. ;-)
