Default AUDI PROBLEMS

Hey all my name is Andrew and I am 18 years old. I was recently looking over the interet at Audi info but still haven't got what i needed. I have a problem I am trying to convince my dad to buy me a AUDI A4 2001-2002. The catch is he thinks that Audis after 50,000 miles or so have terrible maintenece so my question is can i get some feedback on your maintence expeirneces with your Audis. I am looking at all A4 models so all feedback is appreciated. Thanks for your help. Keep in mind this is going to be my car in college so i will be keeping it for a while.

Default An Audi A4 really isn't a super college car unless you can afford to maintain it...

And yes.. after 50k... it is a gamble. A well maintained car will make it far... but again, it is a gamble.

Default I have had my A4 for 3 years of college

I've really liked my car, but you have to be willing to spend a lot of money to fix and maintain it. I bought my 96 2.8 with about 78k on it and have about 121k on it now and have had to replace the tie rods, rack and pinion, power steering pump, the heating system, a major revamp to stop an oil leak in the engine, thermostat, refill the 134a for the AC, a few other minor things, and I am getting my control arms fixed next week. Thankfully all the timing belt stuff was done just before I got the car. So all of this adds up really quickly. You have to really like the A4 to invest in it, it's a money pit, but I love mine

Default vomit, door dings, getting keyed, road trips, girls on hoods, football games, insane mountain drivin

all things i would avoid in my audi now but weren't a big deal in my old beater altima.

get a car you don't have to sweat about and get a nice one when you are done with school

Default Big 2nd.. I had an A4 my first year in college... now I have a GTI...

GTI is a much better college car, in my opinion... although I do miss the prestige of driving an Audi.

Default sorry hate to agree with everyone else Audi's are good but can cost a lot to maintain especially.

the damm timming belt, (I hate knowing that I need mine doing soon). Audi is a great car and will last a long time if well looked after and maintained, they are very safe and can be made quite quick(1.8T) with little money. I know that is not what you were looking for, but see if you can get a A4 with the timming belt done and your half way there to a car with little issues.

Default Buy what you can afford, not what your daddy can. A4s can be costly...

He is already paying for your education, appreciate it. Asking for a 15K+ car at your age is absurd, especially if you won't be paying insurance.

Default If it can be afforded by his family... I see nothing wrong with it.

I'm not quite sure why it's so bad when a 16 year old wants an Audi he personally can't afford. I'd rather buy my kid a nice, safe (keyword: safe) car if I can... than have him by a sh1tty car... crash it.. and die.

Default Spoken like a kid who doesn't have to front the money...

my first car was a piece of crap I earned at minimum wage. Oddly I knew how much work went into it and I took good care of it. Seen a lot of kids trash cars like BMWs just because Daddy will get them another. Funny, but you are also proud of that piece of crap, something you don't get if you didn't earn it for yourself. And yes, I'm Daddy now, and I have a well adjusted kid to show for it (and yes, I'm still proud). So flame all you want, but I've already won.

Default I bought an A4 when I was 17... And if I couldn't afford it myself... (WW)

my parents would have fronted me the money to see me in a safe car. It's not about kids getting a BMW from Mom and Dad and crashing it knowing they will get another.. it's about the other drivers out there.

How proud are you going to be of your kid when someone crashes into him, leaving him looking like this? (MAJOR WORK WARNING ON THAT LINK) Why? Because he didn't have airbags in a safe car... Because you wanted him to have honor at buying a piece of junk on his own.

Is it really worth it?
