I got my 2000/2001 style tail lights from someone on audiworld. They did not give me the bulb holders, so I had to get them from the dealer. Do you have both the bulb holders and the tail lights themselves?
Here is what I did:
Unscrew the 2 plugs that are in the interior of the trunk. The grey trunk lining will then pull out a little bit. Then use pliers or a wrench if you have one to unscew the 4 scews holding the lights in. Then unplug the lights from the cord. Be gentle in doing this. Next, the tail lights should pop right out. Be careful not to loose the screws, they are small. Then, the plastic piece on the tail lights pops out. This may be hard at first, it just takes patience.
After dismounting, then just add the plastic piece to the new lights, put the lights in, connect the wire and put the four screws in. When putting the blubs in, make sure you put the one with 2 little bars on the bottom one, that is your brake light. Also, there is no bulb on the very top right light, becuase there is no fog there in the US.
Hopefully this will workout well for you as it did for me and you will not have to do any re-wiring. Just drop me an email if you have any trouble im around all the time.

Driver side: switch #1 and #3
The only reason you might need to switch the wires is because (for me at least) my blinker was the back up light and back up light was my blinker. I have a '96, and got my tail lights and bulb holders from a guy on the forum, and a junkyard.
