Back in the scene
It's been a very long time since I have been in the Audi scene. Probably 15+ years. Owned a 87 4000 FWD and then a 86 4000q. Was looking to get back into another 4000 but they're harder and harder to find. I currently own a 1991 BMW 325i, hisssssssssss(?), and I would love to get into either a B5S4 or a 2001.5 A4 Avant. Came really close to getting one after I got out of high school but deal fell through. Oh well. However, I'm getting out of my Jeep soon and want to get back into what is now an older A4 or S4. I worked on Audi's back when I was in high school at a small independent shop and fell in love with older German cars. Something about the smell of them just can't be recreated. Since I've been out of the 4 ring game for awhile now, what are some of the things to look for in either of these cars. I know turbos can be an issue and maybe the occasional oil leak, too. Rust? Driveline issues? Etc. Also if anyone, or if you know anyone, looking to sell one and is on the east coast I'm willing to meet up and see what you have. I'm stationed in Maryland but frequent a lot down in Virginia on the weekends. Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this!

The 2.7 with turbos is indeed a nice engine if you are willing to keep up with the maintenance. Now that they are 15 years old or so any vehicle with this engine will require a bit of repair. No real serious car killing issues, just a lot of old parts that are needing to be nursed or replaced. Be careful to buy one that has been kept up or you will go crazy catching up. Read this forum and the C5 one for a month or so and you will get a good idea of the routine issues.
