Battery hooked up in backwards. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My retarted brother thought he would hook me up by putting his deep cell battery in my 98 A4 1.8T while I was away and hooked it up backwards. He only realized this when the alternator started to smoke. Brilliant of him huh. He tried to cover it up by putting the old battery back in but now nothing works when you turn the key on. What did he kill on my car. How bad is it going to be for me to fix it.

Now the truth comes out.

He not only took my car while I was away but while he had it something happened to cause the car not to start. So he figured it had to be the battery. Brilliant thinker he is. so after I try to figure out what he destroyed by reversing the battery I will have to deal with the fact that it woun't start. HELP before I kill him.

umm that's bad, do a search you're not the first one to have this happen but it's not going to be

Ouch. Industry standard *should* be +/- terminals that physically differ.

Oh snap! First kill the brother... you'll need to replace your alternator diodes at minimum...

check all your fuses... and get a new battery.

He may have smoked a lot of things. Check the fuses first (they do serve a purpose)

You would think that they would do something like this, especially since identical batteries can...

have opposite terminals.

You can simply do a voltmeter test of the battery or take it to your local auto parts store and

have them test it for you...usually for free

As for your brother, you should have him take it to a shop and pay to have them fix everything for you. The car needs a thorough examination and that includes Vag-Com. Then he can drive you to pick up your car. I'm surprised you're putting yourself through all of this for something you didn't do..............?
