Blown to hell!

I need help...my '97 1.8 T just blew up(no, no warranty). Towed to the local VW dealer, diagnosis: A vein from the turbo broke off and was sucked into the number 4 cyl. causing much distruction in its path, new engine+turbo needed. $6,000. I live in southern california and need a good audi guy or advice.....pretty much any help would be great.

Would you NOT be better off just buying another car?

I wouldn't really know too well, but $6,000 is a lot of loot. For this money, I'd definetly explore other options (such as buying a different car that is cheap and economical for the time being) to make sure that simply buying and installing a new engine is the best investment.

Well I guess....I love the Audi though. In the meantime I'll be driving around in my old '97 civic ex rice rocket. I dont want to have to pay the dealer $6 g's but I would like their warranty. I found a used engine+turbo with 50,000 miles on them for $3,000 but is it worth the savings, will it just happen again in 20k miles?
