Boost with AC on - Sluggish under load.
Bear with me for this explanation.
I have an '01 1.8T Avant. It is an auto, it is not chipped and has 125k miles.
When I have the AC off, the car seems to pull pretty good (I'll call it acceptable for its age/miles, for its physical size/weight and engine size).
When I turn the AC on, and the car seems to be loaded it feels significantly sluggish, especially if there is a hill involved. It feels as if it is 1 gear too high (not a tranny issue however) and underpowered. It feels under boosted. The boost when it comes in it comes in late.
I have not had any CEL or issues.
1. I have never replaced the coils (but I did change out the plugs not long ago to NGK) should i expect any improvement from new coils?
2. Is it possible I have any wastegate solenoid issues causing this hesitation/lack of boost? Is this repairable/something I can clean?
3. Is it possible that there is info in OBD-II without a CEL? Is it worth doing an Autozone scan? Any VAG-Com users in Atlanta?
Please feel free to bounce your ideas my way.
Thanks!
