Default Boost Guage?

I have a chipped (GIAC) 2001 A4 1.8T. I'm wondering what the benefit is to installing a boost guage. Is it worth doing? I know it's used to monitor the pressure, but is there an actual performance benefit that can be attained from monitoring this?

Kind of a newbie, just starting to dig in..

Default No performance, but it helps a lot in telling whether your car is running right or not.

If you're chipped, I suggest you get one. It's an easy install and it will be very, very useful when all your vacuum lines and air flow components start to deteriorate.

What is a typical boost pressure? Do you have a suggestion on which gauges you prefer?

Default With a GIAC, you're supposed to boost 19lbs and hold there.

If your car actually does that, you're pretty fortunate...

Stock levels are 9-10lbs.

I went w/a Prosport b/c it was cheap. But, you can pretty much put anything in there. AWE is (or was) ungood b/c it's really hard to read.

Btw- you may want to change the subject line in your replies to the first line of your post. It makes it easier to read. Else you might get jumped by some of the grumpier members of this forum.

Default Where is the best/cheapest place to get the prosport?

I found it here for $38.99 but I didn't know if anyone knew any cheaper place.

http://01f6bbb.netsolstores.com/52mm-boost-gauge.aspx</a

Is the consensus that it's better to go with an analog gauge as opposed to digital?

Default It tells you went you lose boost or vacuum, which often can't be identified by the butt dyno/guage.

You should be seeing 18-21, hold 18-19, fall to around 15 or so at redline. will vary a little with ambient temps.

vac should read around 19-21 at idle (less if a/c is on), 24-25 in gear and off throttle.

best looking, imo:

Default It's not going to get any cheaper than that. Analog/digital... Up to you.

Digital is easier to install IMO... Don't have to worry as much about kinking the tube to the gauge since, you can pretty much put the boost/vac sensor wherever and run the wires to wherever.
