Boost problems

Default Boost problems

I have checked all vac lines. They are good I also replaced some just for fun! I pull almost -20 on my boost gauge at idle. I changed the BPV today and that didn't help. Max boost I see is 1 pound at WOT third gear going up hill. My wastegate rod is not broken. I've seen talk of a frequency valve failure could this be what I'm experiencing? Could my wastegate be stuck open? What could it be? Does anyone have the part # for the frequency/n75?

NO! Thanks for the suggestion. Where is the MAF? Sorry might be a stupid question but I have never had to work on this car ever so it is new to me. I'll look on my Bentley cd to find it but an answer would help big time!

Default disassemble the airbox. maf is inside the horn(inside the airbox)

now, never touch the maf element, people (including me) thought Q tips is delicate enough - that ended up with us buying new MAFs - it is very weak and brittle. you have to get denatured alcohol and spray it on or get a bowl and dip the element

Default If you have access to a vag tool, you could gather some readings & determine problem (depends on....

what year car you have. Some earlier cars dont have all the sensors of the new cars. You should be able to monitor actual/requested boost, wastegate valve percent open/closed, stuff like that and figure out the problem.
If you dont have a vag tool, use the site finder to locate someone in your area that can help you.

I have a 97 A4Q does it have the sensors i will need? I dont have a VAG tool but i am thinking about getting one.

Default Thanks, Please read.

Thanks very much for the offer! I'm in Santa cruz, CA.

So I took all the lines from the turbo to the IC and from the turbo to the air box. Checked them all with compressed air (caped one side compressed 20psi into them) and twisted the sh*t out of them to find a break or hole. None were found! So then I hooked a vac line to the wastegate and put compressed air into it and saw the rod move towards the firewall and when I released the air it went back towards the radiator. Is the wastegate moving the right way?

I also hooked a 12v power to one side of the n75 valve and got it to open. I put power to the other side and it opened. I hooked it back up to the car and spliced in a lead to see what it did when the car was running. When i did a WOT (in neutral) the voltage dropped from 12v to around 5 on the side of the switch that is connected to the turbo and nothing ever happen to the voltage on the side that went to the wastegate. Any ideas?

I still only get 1 pound of boost on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

Could it be my ecu? I have an APR chip in it do they ever go bad?
Any ideas?
