I changed my ignition switch in my car last night which required me to unplug my battery. I was reluctant to do this because I didn't have my radio code, but I needed to get the new switch in. After I installed the switch and put everything back together I reconnected my battery and I was able to turn my radio back on without having to enter a code.

How is this possible?

I'm very happy I didn't have to pay the dealer $50 for the code.

Default Many times, if you do not disconnect the radio, the internal caps will keep charge for a while.
Also, not turning it to 'on' while without power helps.

You got lucky.

I would have skipped the battery disconnect. Not necessary.

The only time I pull the ground strap is if I have to do any welding on the car...

Default you mean you didn't disconnect the battery when you pulled the airbag
when doing the heater core?

There's been many times when I had the battery unplugged overnite and never had to put in the code

Default Oh yeah, then too. I actually turned ON the key for that once the battery was unhooked..
wanted to make darn sure there wasn't any stored juice anyhwere waiting to surprise me.

Default lol... i was gonna say...
didn't think you had a burning desire to get accidentally punched in the face by an airbag :-P

I was more concerned with powering the car on than pulling the bag... my mechanic's suggestion when testing everything once done... make sure your face isn't in the way, or wear a helmet :-P
