A/C problem
97 A4 1.8TQM. I'm trying to diagnose an AC problem. My AC would not get cold enough to keep up with the sun on a 90+ degree day, so I bought a gauge to test the pressure. It was around 25-30 psi on the low pressure side. So, I bought a recharge kit and brought it up to the recommended pressure for the ambient temperature. (I think it was around 40-45 psi). Now, on a hot day, the compressor will not engage until I've been on the road for a good 10-15 minutes. It tries to engage, but I'll hear a slight screech from the belt slipping on the compressor wheel and then it immediately shuts off. The diagnostics will give me a "high pressure switch static open" (I think it was 22.1). I have drained off some of the R-134a so that the pressure is back around 30 psi, but now the air doesn't get very cold again and it is still giving me a high pressure switch code (only on very hot days though). On a cool day, it works fine, although it still isn't very cold. Any ideas?
