A/C Problem
I have a 96 a4 and It doesn't have a low side port to recharge the system. It has a high side port on the front of the radiator and the only place I can see to access the system from the low side is at the low pressure switch by the firewall. I took the switch off and the r134 nipple will not seat correctly. Is there another location to charge the system or is there an adapter to fit over the threads ofwhere the low pressure switch is?

Audi wants $200 to recharge the freon. A can of freon is $20. I'm not sure why it's low I think it might be leaking thru the low pressure switch bc there is a green colored fluid inside the switch and from what I've been reading that could be a sign that the switch is leaking and needs to be replaced. I want to know how to charge it myself so that I can locate the problem and fix it and I don't want to spend the money the dealer wants twice or more to do so.

Thanks for the help. I will look around to see if there is someone else to recharge it cheaper. The evaporator is behind the passenger side headlight right?

Re: The evaporator is in the dash. It's the most common place for leaks.
Thanks, Is that rather easy to replace? Does the system have to be pumped down with an evacuator pump or can I replace the evaporator myself and just have the system recharged?

If everything has leaked out, you can just change it.
But if there is freon, you'll have to have it removed.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/638045.phtml">It's not an easy job. Here's the A6 I did.</a></li></ul>
