Cannot connect with ECU
Just replaced the Powersteering rack in my 99 A4, 2.8 Quattro. Ran great for 2 days then all of the sudden the check engine light came on and the timing seems to be off, every now and again when I come to a sudden stop the engine cuts out, the car idles funny? Any way, took it to my dude, he hooked his computer to the OBDII and for some reason we are unable to link to the ECU to read the codes? Any suggestions?

I guess I could have damaged something when I took the dash apart to disconnect the steering link. Is there another OBDII port under the hood? If I disconnect the ECU can I plug right into it? I am not an electrical guy...I have no idea what I am doing, but I would like to learn more!

Re: you didn't plug it in hard enough ? I had that problem with my obd.. just had to push harder
What did the computer say when you were not able to connect. I get power to the computer and the system says on the display "linking"...then it says "link error" and gives me no further reading. I also tried to use a "CarChip" to retreive data. I drove the car for 60 minutes and went to download the chip and there was no data stored on the chip...but it was getting power too...I am confused!
