Central locking problems....can some help?
thanks
The vacuum pump is part number 8L0-862-257-N
I got mine used from Shokan @ 2 years ago for @$250. There is no replacement for just the broken impeller....have to get the whole unit.
Take your existing one out, open it - if the impeller is broken - you will know it and will need to get a new unit.
It is located on the passenger rear side @below where the fuel door is located. It is encased in foam and has 2 or 3 electrical connections going into it and 2 vacuum hoses (each one only fits one nipple on the unit).
Here's a quick rundown...
- Open trunk
- Remove the @6-8 phillips screws holding the plastic trunk liner in place (open trunk and look straight down - that plastic piece needs to come off)
- Remove the tray (pulls straight up) and any other cover material on the passenger side of trunk.
- Remove any foam and/or central locking unit - remove from foam encasing.
- Disconnect electrical and vacuum connections.
- open 'er up.
Look at the last page of the following .pdf<ul><li><a href="https://home.comcast.net/~thomapa1/audi/Centrallockingsystem.pdf">Central Locking System PDF</a></li></ul>
Try this - open your trunk and put your ear near where the central locking pump is located. (you really don't have to get that close to hear it)
Press your remote to unlock the doors, this will cause the impeller to run...if you hear the whining continue for @10-30 seconds (with no response from the locks) - the impeller is busted.
Normally when you press unlock, the impeller runs - creates vacuum pressure and the locks are actuated. With the impeller broken it will run...run...run...until it times out.

If you get a used part, most offer a 1 year warranty - but check to make sure. I used Shokan and was happy with their service/quality - there may be some cheaper sources.
