Default Central Locking System pump failure...?...

The locks on my 99.5 Avant are not working...I can hear the pump running but no worky....SO...I check all the lines and inspect the usual culprit areas for a leak...find nothing...I then take apart the pump located in the rear passenger side quarter panel of the cargo area and of course I find it to be a shattered compressor plate. So, I have a perfectly functioning pump with this little piece broken and it is now deemed dead...?...Is there any way to source an old pump and replace this small piece or even get the small piece somewhere. I have a lead on a non functioning pump with thie piece intact.

Does anyone know if this piece is removable and remountable into another pump..?..The part number for the pump is 8L0 862 257N and it is $473 from the dealer...I do NOT want to purchase a new pump. Also, from running a search here on the forums I've also read that I may have to reprogram my keys if I do end up replacing the entire pump unit....is this true.?..any info on key reprogramming woul dbe great. I found one thread but it said it may not work..?..

Anyway...thanks in advance. Long time lurker here in the forums and lifelong...well 16+ year Audi/VW owner (fanatic) here... ....

Default I had luck with a used pump. You'll need to reprogram keys, you may be able to switch the

pump part only if you are willing. I hardly remember what the innards of mine looked like but IIRC, it wouldn't be too bad.
Someone here may have a bad pump with electrical problems that they are willing to part with. I had one but last time I looked, I could not find it.

iirc there's a passat pump that's an easy mod/fix.

First...thanks for the replies...what are the details of the Passat Pump replacement. I'm assuming it may be cheaper and I'm sure easier to source one I suppose...if you have more info let me know...

Troto....are you saying you had luck with just replacing the shattered graphite compressor fan thingy OR you just replaced the entire unit with a replacement, which it sounds to me.....what is the process for reprogramming the Audi keys...?...I've reprogrammed my VW keys before but I know this is a different process for whatever reason.

Default Yeah, I had to replace the entire unit due to electronic falure. I found one locally for about $100

My pump fan thing was fine though. (I kept it but it is unknown where it is now)
in order to get the remote synced with the new pump, I put one key in the ignition, turned it one click (ACC position), shut the door. With the other key, (one with remote) I locked the door manually and hit the open button. The horn beeps once and that remote is programed.

This is for my early 99. There are a few articles in the tech or FAQ section. I'm not sure if this process changed with later models. It's pretty simple, you just need two keys.
