Default check engine light

Ok , I have a 97 fwd 1.8t automatic apr chip, lltek intake, forge bpv. I'm driving home from my last class today going the speed limit not working the car at all. Then the check engine light starts flashing and then just stays on. I only had less than a mile to my house so I drove it home and it didnt drive like there was anything wrong with it. Opened the hood looked around and there didnt appear to be anything wrong. Anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong? Should I still drive it? Thanks for any help!

Default Check your gas cap...

The most common cause of MIL is a missing or loose gas cap - which prevents the fuel system from creating a vacuum. If it is the cap, the light will go off after a while once you've replaced/secured the cap.

If the cap is on tight, get someone with a VAG tool to diagnose the DTC or bring it to the dealer.

Default Could be a million things

Ranging from bad gas to ECU. Take it from someone who has had (and still has) CEL come on once every few months (on my 98 2.8Q). Check the archives on here, sometimes it is a vacuum-check (gas cap loose, bad gasoline, or bad coolant sensor. Mine even went off for low battery voltage once.
Be safe and take it in and have it looked at, or if you have access to a VAG tool, check the codes yourself.
