Chip performance dips?

I have an APR 1bar chip and I've noticed that there are certain times where the engine doesn't feel as if it pulls as strongly as other times. Usually, it feels as if the car accelerates the best right after I start the car... but after I've been driving around for a while, the acceleration doesn't seem to be as strong. also, are there different factors that determine how long the turbo lag is? sometimes, it seems like there is almost no turbo lag - right when i mash my foot down on the accelerator, the car takes off while other times, i'll press hard on the accelerator and it'll take a good 1-2 seconds before any kind of extra boost is felt... anyone else experience any of this?

I notice this to....

I plan on installing a boost gauge so I can see what's going on.

This happens on cars without chips too. I suspect it is because at startup, the fuel/air mixture going to the engine is richer (to keep it from stalling), until the car warms up.

What happens is that your computer seeing that your engine is cold has to adjust it's tables to give more gas and run teh engine richer until it is warmed up. I would imagine that getting a cooler thermostat might fool the engine into thinking it is cooler than it actually is and you might see it perform better. I am sure this may bring a debate since you are fooling the ODBII and all your sensors and the overall effect may be opposite of the goal... I don't know for sure, but I do believe that changing the thermostat would get your engine running more like a "cold" engine.

It sets a minimum temperature for the engine to run. With any thermostat, the coolant still goes through the same radiator, so it will eventually get to the same temperature. A cooler thermostat just opens sooner than hotter thermostats, which will cool engine earlier, but eventually, operating temps will come up.

The thermostat does set the minimum temp the engine runs at, most useful in cold weather, when it does indeed set the running temp. Too low, and the engine runs poorly, and the heater does not work well!
