chip question - changing programs

If I get a GIAC chip for my stock 1.8T and then 6 months later install an FMIC and exhaust and then 6 months later a K04, do I have to go to a tuner each time to get the appropriate program or is there a way to update it yourself?

for the k04, get a giac and then you can get a discount on the k04

but you dont really need a fmic for a k04

Yes, but how do you go about updating the program on the chip?

Or do you have to get a whole new chip every time you make a change?

Once you have the GIAC chip they can reflash it for a different program...

So the only way to reflash the chip is to go to a GIAC dealer?

I'm just trying to understand how this works exactly.

It's just that APR has their programs available for download.

Which would leave me to believe that there is a way to reflash a chip yourself. And if you can do it with APR then I would imagine you can do it with GIAC also? I searched but didn't find anything helpful on this subject, thus the stupid questions.
