Chip Swapping Problems
I currently have the first version of GIAC on my 99.5 A4, I had the version30(non-surging) sent to me. I have tried swapping the chip, but my car will not start, i do not hear it recalibrating either. I then tried the stock chip and the same thing happened. I revert back to his first chip and my car recalibrates and starts up afterwards. I had tried this about 7 times on two different weekends. Anyone have suggestions on what the problem is and how i can get the new chip to work??? I contacted AWE, but i will have to drive down for him to have a look at it (said he never had this problem), but i would like to resolve it without making that extra trip.

Maybe your other chips are fried...
Did you take care to store them in ESD safe bags or ESD foam? Handled carefully? That's the only thing I can think of. Did you leave it turned on for 2 minutes before ignition? Good luck...<p>Arun

That is what i thought at first but,
I had a new one sent from AWE, nope same problem.
I followed all the directions clearly every time (expert now). Was grounded with a static braclet. could not get them to work. I did leave it turned on for 3 mintutes prior to trying to start it, cranks but doesn't start. The original GIAC chip still works though.<p>'99.5 A4 1.8TQMS GIAC,

Chip in the right direction?
I'm unfamiliar with the GIAC set up, but with my socketed Wett, you have to make sure to put the chip in the socket in the right direction. Did you try swapping the chip end to end in the socket? It's sounds obvious, but something to check for.
