Chips
After I get my A4 1.8T MQSC, I intend to chip it right after the break in period. Questions, do I need to wait? how long? Second, do I have to put on an exhaust to get all the benefits of the chip? For service, I can replace the chip easily, but an exhaust??? I want it to appear stock for service visits to avoid any issues. Does the chip alone make a hell of a difference or is the exhaust required?

Exhaust upgrade allows going with higher pressure chip
I'm no expert, but, from what I understand a cat-back exhaust system lets the engine move more air so you can go with a higher pressure chip - 1.1 bar instead of 1.0 bar (16 psi v. 14.5 psi). The K03 turbo apparantly can deal with this much pressure given a freer flowing exhaust.
The combination gets you up around 210HP or better (K&N filter may help as well) compared to about 195 with a 1.0 bar chip.
MTM/Hoppen and Garrett/AWE offer 1.1 bar chips in combination with exhaust in a stage 2 package (AWE also packages a K04 Turbo and 15 bar Fuel Pressure Regulator for about 235 HP, but I think you can go ala carte if you don't want to pay for the extra hardware).
