the temp setting has nothing to do with it...
As long as you're in full Auto mode, the A/C compressor will be on, regardless of what you set the CC to. However, when the outside temps drop below certain level (like freezing point, IIRC), then the A/C will never come on. At least that's what the manual says, but I could have sworn I saw it working even when outside temps were below freezing mark.

No problem above 76 ...
I live in Scottsdale (AZ), so I can tell you that setting the A/C for the mid 80s is fairly "cold" in the summertime, and the compressor goes like normal. It isn't the temperature setting, but whether or not the interior is warmer or colder than desired.

Ok, so then here is a stupid question. Does the AC running affect gas mileage then. I have always heard that and noticed in past cars that I got better mileage without the AC running. It seems like I am getting better mileage now that it is cold, is that fact or myth?
