Climate Control Problem...NEED HELP

So I just bought an Audi A4 Quattro 2.8. I love it, absolutely no problems and the owner gave me all service records and even the original sales receipt! My problem, which just happend today, the climate control unit only allows air to blow from the mid-vents and lower-vents. I get nothing out of the defrosting vents. And usually the A/C symbol would come on when the defroster mode is on and it doesn't anymore. When I have the defroster on, air is blow out of the lower, feet, vents. Any suggestions?

What year?

My 96 doesn't blow out of the defrost location either. I have to use the up arrow on the climate control to get any air up there.

Are the buttons for directing the vent flow stuck? I have a 2000 and mine get stuck because drink

holder directly above them. Previous owner must've spilled her latte/pop and it dripped onto buttons making them sticky. Put a hot, damp rag on the buttons for a few minutes to see if that loosens them up (assuming you have the style of buttons I have).

had an issue like it

pulled it out reset the connection and has been fine since. you have to pull the stereo then u can pull the wood trim off and get to the bolts to get the unit out.
