Clutch Question based on problem
Just to be safe we tried another 2001 Audi A4 QM on the lot and it made the exact same noise. So I ended up buying the car and it has run fine, untill the other day when I was driving it. I put the car into gear at a light and then released the clutch and applied the gas (now this is my first manual car, so im not a pro yet, but I can handle the car and know when to shift and how to shift) but the car was only moving about 1-2 mph. The throttle was now around 4500 rpm so I applied the brake and then tried again and the second time it worked. Tonight I was driving and the exact same thing happened, the car would not accelerate and there was the faint smell of burning clutch, so I re-geared and the car drove fine. I am not going to drive it again untill Audi takes a look at it, the car still had 15000 untill the warranty goes. Anyone have and idea though as to what it might be? The clutch seems to either be slipping or the tranny isnt going into gear. On both occasions I was on a hill slopeing towards the back of the car.
Thanks,
Scott
Try to drive it on a level road. Do your standing start again. Does it slip?
Where would you say your clutch pedal engagement is? near the bottom of the floor or high up off the floor? [your foot when you engage the clutch]
The higher off the floor it is, the sooner you'll need a clutch.
