Common Oil leak area? - 98 2.8 Quattro

Hi all,

i purchased a 98 2.8 Quattro, it has oil leak around the oil filter. I am a newbie to A4..

Can someone please tell me where are the common oil leak area for 30v.. so, i know where to look for.

The engine.

Basically, they all leak a little from just about every concieveable place. Some don't, they are the exception. If you have drips, then that's a moderate leak. If you are leaving puddles, that's a considerable leak.

I went to take a look at the leak..

it is not MAJOR leak.. but, it is leaking enough to annoy the F__K out of me..

the leak in engine driver side (towards power steering reservoir). A closer loook, it "seems" like the leak source is from the engine itself.. and it is coming under where the oil cap is. (i cant tell for sure with that plastic engine cover). maybe some engine gasket?

i dont think it is head gasket.. if it is head gasket, then it should idle and drive rough.. the car is smooth..

any other possbile source?

Check the oil filler cap and change it's rubber seal. Common fault.

what is the sympton be .. if it were the oil cap seal?

mine seems to leak a bit.. and all the way to underneath the tray.. and even splash some to under the hood..?

Cam Adjuster Seal Leak

Picking up my car today after dealing with an oil leak around the Cam Tensioner/Adjuster Seal. I was leaving (relatively small) puddles on the garage floor of my condo, so I knew something was up. Came out to about $1,000 (largely labor) to have it repaired at University Audi, Seattle, WA.
