complete tragedy...

My friends A4 was completly submerged under water this evening by a flash flood under a highway. its being towed out as we speak and has complete coverage with insurance. the car was completly submerged for threee hours...should he expect the car to be considered totaled by the insurance company? if so, will they just cut him a check or buy a new comperable A4? The car was used when he bought it, its a 98 A4. The coverage is state farm, and as i said its the most complete comprehensive coverage available.

anybody have any answers, insight, or stories? It's been a long night, sorry if this message is sloppy

Yikes. Should be totalled and he'll be cut a check for the appraised amount.

Tell him to INSIST on totalling. Don't believe it can be rehabbed and don't take no for an answer.

there is no "most complete" but...

yeah, its totalled.. he will get a check for the value of the car before it was submerged in water.. You can sometimes negotiate this amount, but it'll take a lawyer

oooh yea .. it'll be totalled. guranteed. if not then the ins co is trying to f u.

including the stereo,ecu etc and other higher set electronics .. as well as a completely new interior and it'll be @ *LEAST* 10k in repairs.

throw in a new engine and other misc tranny parts .. and youre talking well over 15k. the insurance company will total if the repairs add up more than 40-45% of the worth of the car.

i know .. i'm a former flood victim myself. =(

at least there's a brighter side to all this .. tell him to start looking for a new car. =)
