Compressor noises
I was sitting in line at a drive thru today and noticed a metallic buzz/whirring noise. I thought, surely it isn't my car, but I rolled down the window when next to the wall and it sure enough was my car! Turned off the heat, and it stopped. Now, I do believe it's silly that the compressor runs when the heat is on, but that aside... what could this noise be?
I found a few posts that suggest it could be the fan, or the motor, or the tensioner... is there a way I can pinpoint which one it is?
Noise stops when the climate control is on ECON or OFF. All other settings produce the noise. Does it have a clutch on the fan that can be replaced?

You have the CC on auto. This will turn on the compressor, and the electric fan. If it is really loud, then likely your fan is shot. Mine just died too. Don't use auto on the CC, use the manual settings and the fan won't turn on.
