Cone Filter Question...

Cone Filter Question...
What is the OVAL/Round Connecter that goes into the stock airbox? Is it necessary to have this mounted somewhere if you slap on a cone filter? Like in the pipe or something? All of the aftermarket intakes that I have seen are little more than a cone filter and a 180º pipe. I would prefer to fabricate my own, but I am worried about that Oval/Round sensormajigger...
Any help would be appreciated... Pix are good also..

are you talking about that rubber plug thing?
yeah...i think you need it. on my intake...they left a cutout for you to put it back in. i dno't know what the heck it does. its just some funky metal heatsink-looking thing with a rubber surround. i would tell you more...but i'm absolutely clueless on wtf it does. :P

But, assuming the Metal Intake tube gets warm, the thingamagigger absorbs and localizes the heat.
