Default Control Arm Kit

I've been told to go with a FEBI so that I don't regret it and get premature failure.

Car is a 2001 AWM 1.8t QMS

and the Part # is 8D0-498-998 according to PAP Parts search

So my question is: Pap parts has the FEBI kit for $530, 1stVW parts sell the "OEM" kit for $560 - any difference? Do I have the right part # to get everthing needed?

Control Arm Link Kit Contains: (2) Front Lower Control Arms (2) Rear Lower Control Arm Links Front Suspension (2) Front Upper Control Arm Links (2) Rear Upper Control Arm Links Front Suspension (2) Stabilizer Links Front (2) Outer Tie Rod Ends (1) Mounting Hardware Kit

TIA

Seems you completely missed Purems. They have the full Febi kit for $499.95 and that includes tie rod ends.

I went that route (purems) two years ago, had them professionally installed and now with less than 23,000 miles on them it is time to replace them again!!!!!!!! Nothing against Pure MS. Their service was great but I think that comes to the equivalent of tossing a nickle out the window every mile I drive.

I wonder if driving habits, road conditions and how low the car sits effect how quick the control arms go bad. Reason I ask is because I am actually still on my OEM set at 135k+ miles.

The original set on my 99.5 Avant with factory sport suspension started getting noisy at about 140k. I usually get about 35+k on a set of tires, I'm on the second set of brakes and the front suspension is just now starting to get soft. The car is now at about 165k and running good (except that darn abs mod which gets fixed next week). I don't baby it but I also don't push the envelope every time it is driven. It still baffles me why I'm having to do this ca replacement so soon. I had a professional BMW/Audi shop do the install and the mechanic that did the actual work is a German guy that was trained by the factory and the other mechanic cut his teeth working on BMW's for BMW in Puerto Rico so one would assume that the job was done right.

If the installer doesn't rest the car weight on the suspension when tightening the nuts at the rubber bush end, the rubber can fatigue early. Just a thought!

I made that comment when the car was dropped off and both the BMW guy and the German Audi guy were not very happy with me telling them that. Guess it insulted them but we still respect each other as friends and enthusiasts.

If the rubber bushings are already worn out, I would lose some respect for them as mechanics. This is a well know issue, not specific only to Audis.
