Control Arm Problem - Need Help

I know one of the front passenger side lower control arms are all dried out(the ball joint that is). I've taken my 1998 audi a4 QMS to two mechanics and both of them can't tell if it's the front or the rear control arm? Is there any way to tell? Advise is appreciated.

my mechanic said it's the front 90% of the time. No guarantees though.

bring this picture (and the following legend) to your mechanic:

1. stabilizer bar
2. Stabilizer bar clamp
3. Front upper control arm (rear arm not visible)
4. streering nuckle
5. Shock Absorber lower mount
6 Front lower controal arm
7 stabilizer bar link
9 Subframe
