Default Control Arms???

I have a 2000 1.8T non sport. What are control arms? Does this problem affect my model or year? Considering aftermarket extended warranty?

Control arms are a part of the suspension. Basically, they're the moveable links between the part of the car that stays on the road (the wheels/hubs) and the part that goes up and down (the chassis/body). I'm not sure what the previous poster was referring to, as control arms are not a likely thing to fail -- they're basically just metal castings, forgings, or stampings.
